Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Electronics household goods and high-tech products retailer Pixmania is negotiating a social plan to cut 187 positions in France, about 40% of its workforce. The restructuring will mainly affect its headquarters in Asnière-sur-Seine. The other job cuts, about 40, will affect its logistic platform at Brétigny. Pixmania closed 10 stores in France in 2013 (when it was owned by Dixons), making 150 people redundant (see previous ERM Factsheet). The loss-making firm was subsequently acquired by German group Mutares in early 2014.
