Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 26 June 2014 insurance group Achmea announced that it will sell all of its fitness centres. 19 centres will be sold to Fitland and 12 will be closed as well as the head office. The measures will result in the loss of 126 full time equivalent jobs. In 2013, the centre made a loss of € 6 million. The centre had been acquired in 2000, with the idea of offering insurance clients discounts when they made use of the centres. However, they faced strong competition from cheaper gyms. The timeline of the job losses has not been announced but will presumably take place in the second half of 2014.
