Woodbury Brothers and Haines, a family business that designed and made furniture located in Highbridge in Somerset has gone into administration. After unsuccessful attempts by the administrators to find a suitable buyer, the majority of employees were made redundant. The bankruptcy resulted in 163 of the total workforce of 175 losing their jobs.
Woodbury Brothers and Haines operated in Highbridge as a family business since 1949. The company began by supplying local schools with furniture and during the 1960s the furniture makers were responsible for developing a new process of wood veneering. The furniture maker was one of the largest employers in the local area.
