The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Telecommunications company Virgin Media is to cut 138 jobs at its centres in Bradford and Birmingham. 50 jobs will be lost in Birmingham and 88 jobs will be lost in Bradford. It is reported that the cuts are most likely to affect office roles within the company.
The communication workers union (CWU) issued a statement condemning the job cuts and noted that these latest job cuts come after the company has just undergone a significant restructuring process lasting several years. The union also said that the move was an attempt to outsource jobs to Banglaore, India.
The company has said that there will be consultation before any job losses take effect, including discussions around relocation or redeployment within the group. The company hopes to achieve the job reductions by means of voluntary redundancies and not replacing leavers. The time scale for the consultation has not been reported.
