Description
Bergen Group will dismiss 54 employees and temporarily lay off 170 employees at its shipyard at Fosen. The shipyard failed to get sufficient funding for two upcoming projects, and has no new building contracts until the third quarter of the year. The need for dismissals was announced at the end of April, while the exact number of dismissals and temporary lay-offs were announced on May 20th. The company's management describes the situation as terribly difficult, but both the company and union representatives express hope that the problems are temporary and that the lay-offs will only last a few months.
