Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Dutch computer chip producer, NXP, has announced it will cut 85 jobs in its Nijmegen plant. The source reports that NXP aims to make production more efficient by reducing its support staff, managers and technicians.
The company will cut the jobs primarily through layoffs. According to the source, trade union FNV is opposed to the jobs cuts as it claims NXP is a profitable business and it does not believe the cuts are necessary.
The timeline for the restructuring is still unclear. The ERM has previously reported on restructuring events at NXP, seeĀ 2013, 2011, 2009 and 2007.
