Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Dutch co-operative firm, The Greenery, has announced that it will cut 350 jobs, approximately 20% of its total workforce. The jobs will be cut as part of a restructuring process which will see four of the company’s seven distribution centres close. According to the source, 150 employees were let go over the course of 2013.
Although the exact timeline of the restructuring is unclear, €23 million has been reserved to cover the costs of the restructuring (including the costs of the social plan) for 2014.
