Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Automotive supplier Trelleborg Modyn announced to cut about 95 positions at its plant in Carquefou (Loire-Altantique). The cuts would affect half of the company’s production employees.
The management explained its decision with the sharp competition of Asian manufacturers and a decrease in demands throughout Europe. The company plans to maintain the site and to restore its competitiveness.
The plant produces anti-vibration components for mainly French car manufacturers. It belongs to TrelleborgVibracoustic since 2011. The group employs 10,000 employees in 38 sites in 18 countries. Its annual turnover in 2012 reached €1.6 billion.
The ERM reported previously on a restructuring at the same site, announced in 2008.
