Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Car maker Honda has announced that it is to scale back the activities of its production plant in Swindon with the loss of 340 permanent jobs and an additional 160 temporary jobs.
The job cuts were blamed on surpluses in production with no increase in the car sales forecast. The Swindon plant will change its work schedule from three shifts a day to two. The company made significant redundancies last year reported in the ERM.
The company hopes to reach the number of redundancies on a voluntary basis, but will examine statutory or compulsory redundancies if necessary.
Honda said it will be entering into consultation on the proposed job cuts.
