Description

UK postal services company Royal Mail has announced plans to cut 1,600 jobs and create 300 new roles by the end of 2015. This is to affect mainly managerial, support and administrative staff.

The job cuts are part of a package to reduce costs by GBP 50 million per year, and it is expected that these cuts will reduce costs by GBP 25 million in 2014 to 2015.

The company hopes to achieve the job cuts through natural turnover, redeployment and voluntary redundancy.

Consultations with Unite and Communication Workers Union (CWU) will begin at the start of April.

In 2012, Royal Mail announced it would close three of its UK mail centers with significant job losses.
