Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Food producer Continental Foods (former Campbell's) is to close its site in Kristianstad, resulting in the loss of 110 jobs. The company intends to move production of dry products to Belgium with the loss of 69 jobs. Another 40 jobs will be lost as a result of the outsourcing of the logistics management to another firm and relocation of the sales and support functions to Lund, Sweden. The relocation is still at a tentative stage.
Employees were not expecting this since the closing of the site came unannounced. The reason given for the closure was the low volumes produced at the site and a drop in demand for dried soups, sauces and desserts.
Trade union negotiations are to be entered within a week. The relocation will be executed by the end of the year.
