Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Regional train operator S-Bahn Berlin will cut 160 positions among supervisory staff by the end of 2015.
This is due to the implementation of a camera system substituting train dispatchers, which is to reduce costs and increase competitiveness. According to media reports, 120 staff will remain as mobile supervisors, while another 120 will be employed centrally.
Forced redundancies are not foreseen, the redundant employees are meant to change to other subsidiaries.
In total, S-Bahn Berlin employs 400 staff in its supervision section. The ERM reported on restructurings at Deutsche Bahn group the latest in 2014 and 2013.
