Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Dutch food company Vion will close its slaughterhouse in Lingen (Lower Saxony) and thus make 100 people redundant by the end of April 2014. This is due to decreased utilization.
Since 2008, production decreased by 30 percent, so the slaughterhouse suffers from losses. The closure includes the redundancy of 170 temporary agency workers. Vion will offer positions in other sites, for example in nearby Emstek (Lower Saxony).
The ERM reported on a previous restructuring at Vion in Germany in 2012.
