Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 30 January 2014 pharmaceutical group MSD announced it would cut 580 jobs between mid 2014 and the end of 2016. All job cuts will take place in the research centre located in Oss. The first announcement for 140 job losses was made in November 2013; the number now has risen to 580. After the restructuring 30 jobs will remain in research as well as 1500 in the production lines. The measure is part of a world wide restructuring operation by MSD (see factsheet 25470) and comes on top of earlier restructuring in Oss after the acquisition by MSD in 2010 (see factsheet 17821).
