Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Home appliances manufacturer Whirlpool will close down its factory in Norrköping, making all 323 employees redundant by the end of 2014. Staff are expected to remain working until at least July.
Negotiations have started between the union IF Metall and the company.
Whirlpool is based in the US, employing about 69,000 staff globally. In 2011, the ERM reported on the group’s plan to cut on 5,000 staff worldwide by the end of 2013.
