Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The customer services and sales company Energa Obsługa i Sprzedaż is to cut at least 218 jobs in 34 units across Poland in 2014.
This is to increase the company’s financial and organizational efficiency.
The redundant workers will be able to choose one of three voluntary dismissal programmes. The employment status of another 144 employees is expected to change as they will be re-employed on agency or one year fixed term contracts. The company is negotiating with the local trade unions about the details of the restructuring.
Energa Obsługa i Sprzedaż is a subsidiary of the Polish electricity producer and distributor Energa group. Currently, the company employs 600 staff across the country.
The ERM reported on a previous round of dismissals at Energa group in 2012.
