Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The cosmetic retailer chain Perfumerías Marionnaud is planning to dismiss 421 employees and to close 3 shops (2 in Bilbao and 1 in Madrid). As reported, among the 421 affected staff, 70 job cuts refer to temporary workers and 6 to natural attrition.
According to the sources, the company has lost EUR 94 million from 2008 to 2013. The unions consider the restructuring measures as radical and express fears that will challenge the future viability of the company.
The timeline for the restructuring is not yet available.
