Description
Schott closes its solar wafer manufacturing division in Jena, resulting in the loss of 153 workplaces.
According to the management, the measure responds to the strenuous market situation of the German photovoltaic industry.
As to date, it is unclear if the net job cuts will be reduced via the internal mobility of workers. The management aims to avoid forced redundancies.
In 2012, the company had already announced to cut 220 jobs in Mainz and Alzenau. After the current restructuring process, about 500 staff will be left in Jena.
