Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Technip Offshore Finland, a manufacturer of oil drilling platforms, has announced redundancies of 190 production personnel from its plant in Pori. The company has concluded negotiations which started in September 2013.
Technip originally planned to reduce 250 production personnel. In addition to 190 dismissals announced now, the company will lay off another 250 employees temporarily. As reported, the reason for the redundancies is the cancellation of an order by oil company BP.
