Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Customer service provider Teleperformance is cutting 207 staff at its call centers at Notodden, Porsgrunn, Moss and Rorvik. Thirty percent of those affected are temporary employees, while the rest are full-time employees.
The first employees were already dismissed in September, but most dismissals are still to be implemented. The restructuring is to end in January/February 2014.
The restructuring is mainly due to the loss of a major client. Although the case has not been previously reported in the media, plans for a restructuring were known already in April.
Unions claimed that the restructuring was tough but well managed. Dismissed employees receive preferential rehire rights for 12 months.
