Automotive supplier BorgWarner Transmission Systems will close its site in Ketsch (Baden-Wurttemberg) and cut 180 staff by the end of 2014.
The company stated that the measure is due to low demand for its core products and high competition for alternative products. Parts of the production at Ketsch will be transferred to other European sites of the company.
Negotiations with worker representatives are to start in mid-January. Labor unions announced protest actions against the restructuring plan.
BorgWarner Transmission Systems employs 1,746 staff worldwide. The company is a subsidiary of BorgWarner group, based in the USA.
