Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Pompea, one of the Italian leading companies in the underwear and hosiery sector, is to cut 200 jobs (out of around 400) at its two plants located at Asola and Medole, in the province of Mantua.
As reported, the plant of Asola will be closed, with the loss of 130 jobs; the job cuts at the Medole plant will affect 70 workers, both white-collars and blue-collars. After the reorganisation plan the Medole plant should employ 90 white-collar workers and 85 blue-collar workers.
The trade unions reacted to the company’s decision by going on strike and organising several protest actions.
