Description
Belgian railway company SNCB/NMBS is to cut around 1,000 jobs by means of natural attrition by the end of 2018.
According to media reports, the cost-cutting restructuring is aimed at stabilising the company’s debt. As reported, in the framework of a re-organisation the plan evisages a reduction of up to 1,144 jobs in all group organisations: SNCB, Infrabel and HR Rail.
The unions expressed fears that the real number of redundancies will be up to 4,000 and announced demonstrations to oppose the plan.
