British Airline Flybe is to cut around 500 jobs in the UK. According to the British Airline Pilots' Association, this would include 179 pilot positions.
The redundancies will be spread through the UK operations with the following already announced: Aberdeen, 12; Belfast, 52; Birmingham, 49; Edinburgh, 49; Exeter, 116; Guernsey, 12; Glasgow, 37; Inverness, 35; Isle of Man, 49; Jersey, 35; Manchester, 13; Newcastle, 17; Southampton, 17.
Negotiations with unions have started. A timeline for the restructuring has not yet been given, but in recent years job cuts have followed shortly after the company’s announcements.
Flybe employs about 2,700 staff in the country so far. Earlier this year, it already had announced the dismissal of 300 staff.
