Description
Gravel mining company Hulskens is to cut up to 70 jobs in Wesel (North Rhine-Westphalia). 55 contracts are to be terminated directly while the remaining 15 positions are to be cut by early retirement.
According to the company, the initiative is due to a lack of authorized mining areas in the region.
Worker representatives showed themselves surprised about the management’s decision and claimed that it could have implemented reduced working hours to save jobs.
In total, the company employs about 250 staff.
