Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Chemicals company BASF France announced its plan to cut 140 of 242 jobs at its plant in Huningue (Haut-Rhin).
This results from the company’s plans to relocate its production of additives to Lampertheim, Germany, by December 2014. The measure is part of a global restructuring that is to make 650 staff redundant by 2017 (see ERM Factsheet).
Employees and unions have struck 5 days and blocked the entrance of the plant. The industrial dispute ended on the 17 January. Management and unions are negotiating the social plan.
BASF is headquartered in Germany, employing more than 110,000 staff worldwide. The group employs about 3,000 staff in France.
