European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The elevator manufacturer ThyssenKrupp Elevator is to cut its workforce by 289 positions and to create 31 work places.
The company is to dismiss 184 workers and cut 105 already vacant positions by non-replacements. With a further job creation of 31 places, the net employment effect is to amount to 258 job cuts.
The restructuring is announced as part of a plan to ensure competiveness after the company had run deficits in the past couple of years.
According to a union representative, the plant at Angers, employing 500 staff, will not be affected by the measures. Furthermore, unions called workers to strike against the cuts on 29 October.
ThyssenKrupp employs a total of 2,600 staff in the production of elevators in France. The group is based in Germany, employing over 150,000 staff in about 80 countries. Updated, 24-09-2014: Finally the number of job cuts decreased to 153 instead of 289.
