Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Regional newspaper Ouest-France is to reduce its workforce by 137 positions.
The decision came after the newspaper made a deficit of 5 million euros in 2012 with similar prospects for 2013.
According to the source, redundancies will affect workers, employees and managers. Journalists are to be kept out of the measure, but were asked to cut back on their days of leave.
Furthermore, the company announced a modernization plan of its printing unit which would make the production less labor-intensive.
Ouest-France employs about 1,500 staff and sells 750,000 copies per day. The last reported restructuring by the company is from 2008, when it announced a dismissal of 120 staff.
