Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Siteco Beleuchtungstechnik, a subsidiary of lighting manufacturer Osram, is to cut 200 jobs in Traunreut (Bavaria) until the end of 2015. Job reductions are to mainly affect production and administration. Logistics will be outsourced to a service company.
The measure is to increase competitiveness within the cost intensive luminaires business. According to company officials, cuts will follow a social plan.
In total, Siteco employs 1,000 workers in Germany. Munich-based Osram employs about 39,000 staff worldwide. For former restructuring at Siteco mother company Osram see WO2012, DE2012/1 and DE2012/2.
