Description

Car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover has announced plans to create 1,700 new jobs at its plant in Solihull.

The new jobs are part of a £1.5bn investment aimed at the development of new car models featuring lightweight aluminium technology.

As of October 2013, no date has been given for the implementation of the new jobs.

Jaguar Land Rover is headquartered in Whitley, Coventry, employing about 25,000 staff in the UK. It is a subsidiary of Indian carmaker Tata Motors. The company stated that with the creation of 1,700 working positions, the total number of jobs created in the UK over the past three years will amount to about 10,700 (see e.g. JLR2013 and JLR2012).

Jaguar Land Rover has started its first recruitment drive to appoint more than 500 semi-skilled production operators to roles within its Solihull plant.  The company intends to appoint a total of 1700 skilled and semi skilled workers, and this move marks the start of the recruitment process.

Updated, 15/09/2014:

Jaguar has announced further details about the 1,700 new jobs at the Land Rover factory in Solihull in the UK’s West Midlands. The factory will go into production to make the new Jaguar XE sports saloon in early 2015. Jaguar and Land Rover are both owned by India’s biggest car maker, Tata Motors. This will be first Jaguar to be built at the Land Rover factory. The company is reported to be experiencing some difficulties in filling some of the skilled vacancies. Tata’s decision to build the new Jaguar model at the Land Rover factory in Solihull will also generate many more jobs in the supply chain. This includes the creation of 700 integrated jobs at parts supplier DHL. Recruitment has already started to fill the 2,400 new jobs. In addition, it is estimated that around 2,000 other jobs will be created in the wider supply chain, where 150 new supply firms have been engaged to supply components.
