Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on September 13, 2013, automotive supplier Harman-Becker will cut 150 jobs in Karlsbad-Ittersbach (Baden-Württemberg). This is due to price pressure.
The company currently employs 1,100 people at its Ittersbach site. Worker representatives announced that they will put forward alternative proposals.
In January, Harman announced plans to cut 500 jobs in high-cost countries by the end of 2014 (see also Harman-Becker 2009).
