Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 18 September 2013, chemical company Lanxess will cut 300 jobs in Germany until the end of 2015. This is due to a temporary drop in demand.
Worldwide, Lanxess will cut 1,000 jobs. This is part of the company’s “Advance” programme. Lanxess aims to avoid forced redundancies and announced talks with workers' representatives. As an additional measure, variable compensation will be shortened. Worldwide, Lanxess employs 17,500 people, about 8,000 of them in Germany.
