As announced on 16 September 2013, German steel company Salzgitter will cut 300 jobs in Peine (Lower Saxony). This is reported to be due to increased competition and the recession that has hit hard the construction industry.
The company’s plans are part of its “Salzgitter AG 2015” restructuring programme. Worldwide, the company will cut 1,500 out of 25,000 jobs. In Peine, total workforce sums up to 1070.
