Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Manufacturer of parts and accessories for motor vehicles Tenneco will close its plant located in Gijón (Asturias). The closure of the plant involves the dismissal of 230 employees. The workers’ committee has opposed the measure and plans to discuss the restructuring with the Director of Tenneco Europe.
Update 19-05-2014: On April 2014 the company announced that its plant in Gijón (Asturias) will remain open. In May, the company announced that it will cut 141 jobs, retaining 75 workers at the plant. The workers’ council has proposed that the company reduce the number of dismissals to 66. The works council is also proposing that the company give the option of early retirement to workers over the age of 57.
