Description
On the 30 August 2013, AGC Glass announced its intention to cut 130 (out of a total of 270) jobs in France. The group decided to close its two ovens in the site of Maubeuge (Nord) for three years. Negotiation will start after the first meeting of the Central works council, scheduled for the 13 of September. The management explains its decision by overcapacities of flat glass in Europe. The group has already announced four closures of sites or production lines in France, in the Netherlands, in Belgium (101 job cuts announced in July, see AGC France 2013) and in Italy; all these measures account for the closure of a total of 20 sites (ovens) in Europe (including Russia). Unions called for a strike on the 2 September before the beginning of the negotiation on the social plan.
