Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 4 September 2013, the airliner Lufthansa announced to hire 500 new flight attendants for Frankfurt and Munich. Lufthansa plans to adopt a new working time model (for two years). New employees will be employed for the whole year on a part-time basis (50 per cent). During the year, the hired staff will work full-time from March to October and ‘zero’ hours for the remaining six months. Lufthansa was employing a total of 117,000 workers at the end of 2012.
