Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 29 August 2013, Level 3 Communications announced its plans to make a total of 700 staff redundant worldwide in an attempt to cut costs.
Part of these redundancies will take place in the UK, where the company plans to reduce its staff by 60, corresponding to five per cent of its UK workforce. According to media reports, another 20 staff will be made redundant in the company’s European operations.
The internet network operator currently employs around 10,600 staff across its operations in North and Latin America and Europe.
