Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Danish-Swedish diary firm Arla Foods has announced plans to close its site at Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. The proposed closure may affect 370 jobs.
According to the announcement, the company plans to close its diary and distribution facility based in Leicestershire and relocate part of the milk production activities to its site in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. Arla has entered into consultations with employees and trade unions on the jobs cuts and intends to close gradually the site (October 2013 – April 2014).
Company representatives have stated that they will make efforts to relocate staff to other plants and provide an on-site job shop in order to assist affected staff in finding alternative employment.
