Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Finnish publishing company Aller Media, part of the publishing house Aller Holding, has announced redundancies of up to 70 employees from Helsinki and Rovaniemi. As announced, the company has started negotiations with employee representatives that are going to be concluded in the next six weeks.
Aller publishes 8 magazines in Finland and operates 8 online portals. According to its announcement 70 of its approx. 270 employees may be laid off in Finland, equally divided between Helsinki and Rovaniemi.
The company is not profitable and has initiated a savings plan of 4 million euros. The announced restructuring would amount to one-quarter of the plan. The company seeks to conclude negotiations by mid-September.
