Description
On 31st July, Air France has announced to its central works council a new departure plan (in the framework of its restructuring plan "Transform 2015" which was adopted in 2012). After a first departure plan of about 5,100 employees between June 2012 and June 2013 (see here), Air France will open a new departure plan in 2014 downsizing its workforce by 2,500 employees. The management wants to avoid forced redundancies and has started the information and consultation process with the employees' representatives.
The aim of the restructuring plan is to increase the competitiveness of Air France by up to 20%, while reducing its workforce around 10% and implementing a freeze on salaries and promotions. The working time of pilots and cabin crew will increase from 530 to 655 hours of flight (730 hours on long distance) and the number of cabin crew members will decrease to one employee every 45 passengers. In 2012, Air France had signed several collective agreements with different employees' categories to implement this restructuring plan.
Updated, 18-09-2013: Air France has announced that its new voluntary departure plan will affect 2,800 employees. The total workforce of Air France group will decrease from 106,300 in 2012 to about 98,000 in 2015.
Updated, 04-10-2013: As announced in a corporate press release, the job reduction measures to be implemented in 2014 refer only to 1,826 ground staff jobs (Cargo: 282, Paris CDG hub: 582, Paris-Orly and regional France stations: 719, other activities: 243). Plans to cut pilot jobs (350 FTEs) and cabin crew jobs (700 FTEs) will be duscussed later in 2014.
