Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
E.On, one of the world’s largest power and gas companies, is to cut 120 jobs (out of 240) at its power plant located at Fiume Santo (in the province of Sassari). After some meetings with the trade unions and the local authorities, the company has confirmed the outsourcing of some activities (in particular, the handling service for fuel oil and carbon) with the consequent job cuts. The trade unions reacted to the company’s decision by organising various protest actions. The German group E.On has around 72,000 employees worldwide.
