Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 24 June 2013 the Ruwaard van Putten Hospital declared bankruptcy. 830 jobs are lost.
Updated, 16-07-2013 The new owners of the hospital (a partnership of three hospitals in the Rotterdam region) announced that out of the 830 employees before the bankruptcy, only 500 ones will receive a new short-term contract: 170 of them initially only for a six months period and the rest (330) will be employed on a fixed contract of 3 months.
As announced, the hospital will continue to operate with a new name "Spijkenisse Medisch Centrum"and with all the activities related to advanced provision of care to be relocated to other hospitals. According to the sources after October 2013 there will be decisions about the number of the remaining staff.
