Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 26 June 2013, the Austrian carpentry firm Skloib (owned by Pabneu since 2011) announced its closure, dismissing its 110 employees. While the future of Pabneu is most probably secured thanks to investments, Skloib's reorganization process failed, making the closure of the company necessary. When the company initially requested restructuring measures in March 2013, 50 employees had already been made redundant. The 60 workers remaining will all be dismissed because of Skloid 6.5 million euros debts.
