Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German perfume retailer chain Douglas has presented a labour force adjustment plan affecting 121 jobs. The company also plans to close a number of stores throughout Spain. The affected locations have not be indicated as yet. Douglas operates 80 stores in Spain.
Update, 19-06-2013: Douglas is to cut 99 jobs instead of the 121 previously announced. The restructuring is due to the lower demand and sales. The closure affects 9 sites (49 redundancies) in Leon, Madrid, Salamanca, Cadiz, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Valencia and Murcia, the central services (6 job cuts), various work centers (29 job cuts) and 15 employees who accepted volunteer redundancies.
Additionally, on the basis of individual agreements, 29 full-time workers accepted part-time contracts. The affected workers will be entitled to compensation
