Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 24th April 2013, French sports' newspaper L'Equipe announced it has cut 60 jobs by means of voluntary departures. The group, which employs a total workforce of 490 employees, has already announced (in September 2012) to cut about 46 positions in the frame of a 12 million euros cost-saving plan. After negotiations with unions, the job cuts were reduced to 40. But as the group wanted to avoid forced dismissals, it launched a voluntary departure plan which obtained more success than expected, with 60 employees leaving the group.
