Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Automotive parts manufacturer Decoma Belplas, part of the Canadian group Decoma International, is to close its plant in Genk by the end of 2014 and make 492 people redundant. Among them, there are 260 white-collar workers, 62 blue-collar workers and 170 temporary workers. According to the management, the company is not profitable anymore and the Canadian headquarters have already injected a lot of money during the previous years. The 'Renault procedure' will be launched in the next few days.
