European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Domestic appliance manufacturer Indesit is to cut 1,425 jobs (out of 4,300) in Italy. In particular, the 2013-2015 reorganisation plan envisages job losses that will affect the manager division (25 job cuts), white-collar workers (150) and, mainly, blue-collar workers: 480 job cuts at the plant of Fabriano (in the province of Ancona), 230 at Comunanza (in the province of Ascoli Piceno) and 540 at the Indesit site of Caserta.
According to the company, the reorganisation plan is needed in order to specialize the production of the Indesit Italian plants on innovative and high quality level products. The company will ask the recourse to “social shock absorber” measures aiming at reducing the negative social and economic effects for redundant workers.
In Italy, Indesit has around 4,300 employees.

Updated, 19-11-2013: The company has started the collective dismissals procedure, after some months of unsuccessful negotiations with the trade unions. The social partners have talked about the recourse to Wage Guarantee Fund schemes, solidarity agreements, cuts of the salary and geographical mobility measures in order to avoid the job-cuts, but they haven't reached any shared solutions yet. The trade unions hope that in the next two months the negotiations could be opened again.
Updated, 04-12-13: The company and the main sectoral trade unions (without Fiom-Cgil) have reached an agreement on the restructuring plan. The agreement envisages new investments by the company, a reorganisation of the production in the three Indesit plants (located at Fabriano, Comunanza and Caserta), without any job-cuts. Moreover, the company provides economic incentives for voluntary dismissals and the recourse to the "social shock absorber" measures in the period 2014-2018.
