Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Austria's largest paper and packaging company Mondi Neusiedler plans to lay off up to 120 employees due to economic difficulties. The job shed is to take place in the companies two production sites in Lower Austria, in which 691 employees are currently employed.
During the last three years, the company incurred losses due to sales difficulties, in particular with uncoated paper. Negotiations with the works council will continue for several weeks, according to management.
The exact number of losses has not been confirmed by the management; however, the number was discussed in a meeting on the 27th May, when the staff was informed of the planned restructuring programme.
