Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 16 May 2013, the online furniture retailer, La Maison de Valérie, subsidiary of furniture retailer Conforama (group Steinhoff International), announced to its works council plans to cut 108 jobs by the end of 2013. The restructuring plan envisages 103 job cuts at the headquarters in Vineuil (Loire-et-Cher) and another five at the site in Lognes (Seine-et-Marne). Additionally, 7 positions will be created.
According to the union FO, the company will discontinue its activities after the end of Spring-Summer season. The management will ask a consultancy to help the dismissed employees to find new jobs and will offer about 445 positions within the group Conforama.
