Description
Nokia Siemens Networks, manufacturer of communications network equipment, has announced redundancies of up to 150 employees in Finland. The company has started negotiations with employee representatives on the cuts. Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) employs approximately 5,900 persons in Finland.
It has announced up to 150 redundancies primarily from support services: financial administration, sales, logistics, purchasing (excluding product development and manufacturing units). The company states that redundancies are necessary in order to increase effectiveness and to reduce overlap between units. Layoffs are likely to occur mostly in Espoo. Labour unions have criticized the company for moving jobs from Finland, attributing the redundancies to the fact that in Finland it seems to be easier and cheaper compared to other countries like i.e. Germany. For the most recent restructuring announced by NSN see NSN-FI2012.
Updated, 14/06/2013: NSN has confirmed that it will lay off 120 persons. Most redundancies will take place in Espoo, but the unit in Salo will be closed completely.
